From the Late 19th Century to Today: Exhibition Displays 35 Mantles of the Virgin of the Pillar Featuring Spain’s Flag

In a range of colors, white, embroidered in gold or silver, made to the Virgin’s measurements or decorated with all kinds of symbols and meanings, the Virgin of the Pillar has more than 800 mantles, each different from the others. Spain’s flag appears in the decoration of 39 of them. Now, the Palace of the Former Captaincy General of Aragon is displaying 35 of these mantles in the “Expobandera” exhibition.

This Friday, the Aragonese capital will host an “exceptional” cultural event with the world premiere of Goya Symphony at 7:30 p.m. in the Auditorium, an unpublished composition exploring the life of the Aragonese painter through a piece created by maestro Joan Valent. The work was commissioned by Fundación Ibercaja to mark its 150th anniversary and has become a unique composition.

The Fuentes Film Festival has announced the entries selected and nominated for its 30th edition, taking place from October 30 to November 7, 2026, in the Zaragoza town. The jury, made up of filmmaker Pablo Barce; filmmaker and documentarian Elena Herreros; actress and filmmaker Vanesa Romero; producer Paloma Tejero; and screenwriter Nach Solís, unanimously agreed to select a total of 10 fiction short films for the Official Selection.

"What influences voters more: reality or the narrative?" That is the question playwright José Ignacio Tofé will bring to the London stage with his play "Los árboles no votan". The production will premiere in the city on October 22 as part of FesTelón, the London Spanish Theatre Festival. It will be staged at the Canada Water Theatre, marking the production's first international outing after its premiere at Madrid's Teatro del Barrio.

Manuel Jabois (Sanxenxo, 1978) knows he can write beautifully, but he does not always want to. That is why, in “La víspera”, he does not hold back from telling his most loyal readers how Amalia (the protagonist, 65 and a housewife) cuts up and dissects a rabbit, staining her mobile phone with the animal’s blood almost as soon as the book begins. It is far from the most important detail, but it gives readers an idea of the Jabois they are about to encounter. A firm believer that the eve is much better than what comes afterward, and unsure of what one might be capable of doing for those one loves, the writer recounts in 200 pages what happens over 24 hours in a family where nobody says anything because sometimes—almost always—it is better to remain silent.

Twenty years ago, Álvaro Benito, Pablo Alonso and Héctor Polo released what would become Pignoise's third studio album. They did not know it at the time, but "Anunciado en televisión" would become an almost immediate success. Songs such as "Nada que perder" and "Te entiendo" — popularized by the series "Los hombres de Paco" — as well as "Fingiendo" and "Perder el tiempo" became anthems for an entire generation. Next year, the Madrid band will reunite with those fans on a concert tour aimed at bringing that album back to life.
