A Seat 600, appliances and bus tickets: Zaragoza travels back to its former Trade Fair

The iconic Seat 600, refrigerators, washing machines and ovens that once seemed to have arrived from the future, now-vintage packages of Romero Pasta or a machine used by Zaragoza residents to buy bus tickets. Entering the Chamber of Commerce these days means taking a journey into the past, as well as through the nostalgia and collective imagination of everyone who spent afternoon after afternoon at the Trade Fair between 1941 and 1986. The exhibition "The Fair of Emotions" opened there on Thursday, in the building that housed the event at 2 Isabel La Católica Street.

Coinciding with the 140th anniversary of the Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce, the exhibition seeks to revisit those Fiestas del Pilar during the distant Octobers when thousands of Zaragoza residents flocked there to discover inventions, brands, cars and new products that symbolized a new, then-futuristic way of life. The exhibition will be on display until November 30.

Like the film "Inside Out," visitors to the Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce will be able to experience up to six different sensations and emotions, which also structure the exhibition. It begins with the anticipation surrounding the fair's annual arrival, the amazement sparked by new inventions and the desire awakened by products such as the Seat 600 and household appliances.

The tour continues with joy as its main emotion—the same feeling experienced by Zaragoza residents and visitors as they shared the Trade Fair with their families, friends and loved ones. The meeting of families, visitors and companies, along with the pride of growing alongside a Zaragoza that was also undergoing transformation, are among the other sensations reflected in the exhibition.

To recreate that atmosphere, the Chamber has drawn on archive photographs, historic posters, press clippings and testimonials from the period. The display also includes large-format narrative panels, floor graphics, three-dimensional display stands and a large cube featuring some of the graphic posters that accompanied the Trade Fair for decades. A PLACE TO MEET

The former Trade Fair was much more than a commercial showcase. Its pavilions became a place to meet, discover products and share family memories until the event moved to the current Zaragoza Exhibition Centre in 1986.

The Fair of Emotions can be visited in the upper hall of the Zaragoza Chamber of Commerce, at 2 paseo Isabel la Católica, until November 30, turning for several weeks the same building that hosted that Trade Fair into a gateway to Zaragoza's past.
