Zaragoza joins Huesca education strike on October 14: these are the demands

The dispute involving Huesca’s Education Inspectorate remains unresolved after two years of protests, and teachers are preparing a new day of action. Teachers in Huesca have been called to a provincial strike next Wednesday, October 14. The initiative has also received support from teachers in Zaragoza, who gathered at Plaza de España on Tuesday to show their solidarity and demand solutions from the education authorities.
Zaragoza joins Huesca education strike on October 14: these are the demands

The demonstration brought together public education trade unions, which are calling for changes to the way Huesca’s Education Inspectorate operates. ANPE Aragón thanked supporters from Zaragoza and stressed that the demands concern issues “that should be common to all teachers in Aragón,” such as legal certainty, the application of consistent criteria and proportionality in administrative actions.

WHAT TEACHERS ARE DEMANDING AHEAD OF THE OCTOBER 14 STRIKE

The union believes the Education Inspectorate must combine its supervisory and oversight duties with advice and support for schools. In this regard, it is calling for these tasks to be carried out with "moderation, impartiality and without excessive scrutiny in the form of constant demands backed by the threat of sanctions". ANPE insists that the dispute has gone beyond the provincial level and requires a response from the Department of Education.

The main demands include the application of common criteria for the Education Inspectorate’s work in Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel, an external review of the disputed sanctions and disciplinary proceedings, and the replacement of the head of the Huesca Inspectorate. With the latter measure, the unions seek to open a new stage of dialogue and restore trust between professionals and the Administration.

After two years without reaching a solution they consider sufficient, ANPE Aragón directly holds the Department of Education responsible for “adopting the decisions needed to unblock the dispute”. Nevertheless, the organisation insists that "the aim is not to fuel confrontation, but to make a solution possible that restores professional and institutional trust in the province of Huesca". It therefore supports maintaining trade union unity during negotiations.
