CPR, nutrition, exercise and emotional wellbeing: what to expect at the Monegros Health Fair

A road accident drill, CPR workshops, physical exercise, healthy eating and emotional wellbeing are part of the extensive programme launching the second Monegros Centro Health Fair this Wednesday. Over three days, Sariñena, Sena and Lanaja will become meeting points where residents can access practical tools to look after their health and prevent illness.

The event aims to go beyond sport and promote a broader concept of an active lifestyle, which includes both staying physically active and maintaining social relationships and psychological wellbeing. Organised by the Local Health Council, the fair brings together healthcare professionals, associations, social organisations, emergency services and residents with the aim of encouraging healthy habits, self-care and community participation.

Teresa Paraled, a nurse at the Sariñena health centre and one of the initiative’s organisers, says that this year the fair is focusing on “promoting an active lifestyle as one of the fundamental pillars of healthy habits”. Paraled explained that “an active lifestyle is not limited solely to physical exercise. It also involves maintaining active social participation and looking after emotional and psychological wellbeing. Ultimately, it means addressing the three dimensions of the biopsychosocial model of the individual: physical, psychological and social”.

A ROAD ACCIDENT DRILL OPENS THE FAIR IN SARIÑENA

In addition, the fair highlights the importance of coordination among all local services and organisations when dealing with any situation, including emergencies. For this reason, the initiative began this Wednesday in Sariñena with a road accident drill involving the Sariñena Cycling Club, 061 Aragón Emergency Services, the Huesca Provincial Council Fire Service, the Civil Guard, Civil Protection, the Red Cross, the Comarcal Social Services and healthcare professionals from the Primary Care team at the Sariñena Health Centre. This was followed by a session to analyse and discuss the response carried out.

On Thursday, activities will be held in all three towns. In Sariñena, topics will include treatment adherence and the safe use of medicines, food handling and storage, and learning difficulties in childhood, with the participation of healthcare professionals, veterinarians and specialists from the Valentia Foundation.

In Sena, the programme includes a healthy breakfast, an information stand run by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, workshops on making seed sachets and several information sessions on nutrition, the responsible use of medicines and the Vivifrail programme, which aims to prevent frailty and promote independence among older people.

HEALTH ACTIVITIES IN SARIÑENA, SENA AND LANAJA

Meanwhile, Lanaja will host information stands from various organisations and associations throughout the morning, along with activities focused on healthy ageing, physical activity, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), food safety and health promotion. Highlights include a presentation of the Vivifrail programme and the talk “Look after yourself to live your best version!”.

Friday’s programme will bring numerous activities open to the public to Sariñena’s Mezín Square and other municipal venues. There will be CPR workshops, dance activities adapted to different ages and physical conditions, volunteer information stands with the participation of the Red Cross, Caritas and the Spanish Association Against Cancer, as well as a Health Trivial quiz aimed at promoting knowledge related to wellbeing and prevention.

The afternoon will also include talks on emotional wellbeing, body awareness and physical exercise, together with the presentation of the book Un cuerpo rebelde, una vida infinita, by Ignacio Almudévar. The programme will conclude with a lecture on the health benefits of strength training beyond the usual practice of walking.

COMMUNITY-BASED HEALTH PROMOTION

The Local Health Council highlights that this second edition aims to consolidate a meeting space for professionals, associations and residents, bringing health promotion into everyday life, encouraging community participation and offering practical tools to help improve people’s quality of life.

The fair is part of the health promotion and community care initiatives carried out in the Sariñena basic health area, which includes the municipalities of Sariñena, Sena and Lanaja, strengthening collaboration among institutions, social organisations and residents to build healthier environments.

The fair is organised by the Prevention Committee of the Monegros Centro Local Health Council, a collaborative working group that brings together various social and community stakeholders from the area with the aim of developing health promotion and disease prevention initiatives.
