An edition featuring 26 stalls selling new and second-hand clothing, furniture, home décor, costume jewelry, gifts and books, as well as a new "corner" for food lovers. The "Solo ibérico" corner will offer a range of cured meats to enjoy at the Rastrillo or purchase to take home. In addition, the painting stall, one of the most popular, will feature screen prints by a painter from Zaragoza that will "certainly sell very well," María Pilar Enériz, the Rastrillo’s delegate trustee, explained on Wednesday.
Rastrillo Aragón will be open continuously from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. In addition to shopping, visitors will be able to enjoy a range of activities for all ages. These will include workshops on making puppets, jewelry and origami; "terrifying" gymkhanas for younger children; jotas and rondallas; and a visit from the giant figures of Antigua Química during the 11-day event.
"Once again this year, it is an event through which we call on local residents to show solidarity because there is a need, now more than ever. The Rastrillo has lasted so many years thanks to the more than 800 volunteers who take part each year and are its raison d’être, as well as the support of various institutions. It is a way of bringing Aragonese society together at one of Aragon’s longest-running charity events," Ozanam president Agustín Colás explained.
A CLEAR OBJECTIVE
Last year, Rastrillo Aragón raised 727,000 euros, and this year it hopes to exceed that figure in pursuit of the same goal it has had for the past three years: expanding the Ozanam Nuestra Señora del Carmen Residence, where work has already begun. A new building is currently under construction, featuring two new Living Units and 18 additional rooms to increase the residence’s capacity, which currently serves 75 users.
"Older people need more space. We have a residence that, although it is not very old, needs to adapt to the 21st century. It has been shown that care is much better in smaller groups and different spaces than in one very large room with many residents," the Ozanam president explained.
