The hospital has invested around 280,000 euros in work covering 1,200 square meters. The improvements were carried out in operating rooms 7 and 12, covering around 800 square meters, and in the Surgical ICU, where a further 400 square meters were renovated.
The work in the six operating rooms included the operating areas themselves, the preoperative rooms and circulation areas. One of the main improvements was the reorganization of the spaces by modifying doors and partitions to increase storage capacity.
New minimally invasive surgical techniques require larger and more technologically complex equipment, including screens and navigation systems. Their incorporation has created storage needs that were not considered when these spaces were originally designed.
This equipment improves image quality and facilitates the work of surgical teams, helping to provide more precise and efficient care while supporting faster patient recovery. These procedures also require more instruments and disposable supplies and, therefore, more space to store them.

The modernization carried out this summer will also allow ergonomic improvements so that nursing staff can handle surgical instrument cases more easily.
NEW FLOORING, PANELS AND MORE DIGITALIZATION
Hospital Clínico also carried out various maintenance and repair works. All the spaces were painted and the floors, which needed updating, were replaced. The operating rooms also received epoxy wall panels, a special material that helps improve asepsis.
The work included renewing the wiring and increasing the number of data outlets. This improvement facilitates the incorporation of images into electronic medical records and strengthens the healthcare digitalization process.
The Surgical ICU also underwent changes across its 400 square meters. The hospital painted and refurbished the space, renewed the lighting and flooring, and added new furniture. It also carried out various plumbing improvements to create a more comfortable and ergonomic space for both staff and patients.
AN INVESTMENT OF 280,000 EUROS
Zaragoza’s Lozano Blesa University Hospital has a total of 18 operating rooms. The investment made this summer in six of them amounted to around 200,000 euros, of which 162,000 euros was allocated to adaptation and improvement works and a further 38,000 euros to equipment.
The renovation of the Surgical ICU involved an additional investment of 80,000 euros. This work forms part of the continuous infrastructure improvement strategy at Zaragoza’s Lozano Blesa University Hospital, aimed at adapting its facilities to current healthcare needs and providing increasingly safe, efficient and comfortable care.
