Valdespartera III families denounce “dust, dirt and filth” in prefab classrooms

Families at Zaragoza’s CPI Valdespartera III have denounced the lack of “proper” cleaning in the school’s prefab classrooms more than two weeks after the start of the school year. They say “dust, dirt and filth” have built up in spaces where students spend several hours each day, next to construction work on the future Secondary Education building.

The Parents’ Association says the situation affects both the new temporary facilities installed this year and those already in use during the previous school year. Five new prefab classrooms have been installed this year, in addition to the six the school already had. According to the families, they arrived “one week late” and, when they could finally be used, elements such as “Internet connection and whiteboards” were still missing.

Regarding the latter, the Department of Education told Aragón Press that the Provincial Education Service is expecting to receive, “in the short term,” the whiteboards and some computer equipment that are still “pending” installation. In any case, it stressed that “the conditions for teaching classes are fully guaranteed so that educational activities can take place normally.”

CONCERNS OVER CLEANLINESS CONDITIONS

The main concern, however, is now the cleaning conditions. Families say the new prefab classrooms did not receive a thorough cleaning before they began to be used and that those installed a year ago are not being properly maintained either.

In addition, construction work on the new Secondary Education building is taking place right next to the school, which, according to the families, is causing even more dust in the temporary facilities. “Our children spend many hours there every day. Is it really necessary to wait more than two weeks for a classroom to be cleaned?” they ask.

The situation is occurring while the school continues to rely on prefab classrooms because the permanent Secondary Education building is still unavailable. The families recall that they have been waiting four years for these facilities, whose absence has forced the school to progressively occupy more of the playground with temporary modules.

For this reason, they have asked Zaragoza’s Provincial Education Service and Zaragoza City Council to immediately carry out a thorough cleaning of all the prefab classrooms at CPI Valdespartera III. They are also calling for a frequent cleaning service to be established while construction continues next to the school, so that the classrooms can be kept in suitable condition. “We are not asking for anything extraordinary. Just cleanliness. Just decent conditions,” they conclude.
