The new institute will focus its work on formal and non-formal education in Aragon. Its research will cover the various levels of non-university education, higher education and the challenges posed by society, with the aim of providing useful responses for both professionals and institutions linked to education.
One of the IPIEC's main objectives will be to provide educational stakeholders with scientific evidence and analyze the processes needed to educate citizens for the 21st century. To this end, the new entity will work in coordination with other institutes, centers and research organizations developing education-related projects.
HUESCA CAMPUS TO HOST THE NEW INSTITUTE
The Institute for Foresight and Research in Education and Citizenship will be based at the Vice-Rectorate's headquarters at the Huesca Campus. From there, it will seek to promote educational research carried out at the University of Zaragoza and position it in spaces of excellence and recognition, both nationally and internationally.
Its functions will also include strengthening relations with other research centers and institutes and planning initiatives linked to teaching innovation. It will also coordinate research and knowledge-transfer programs to bring the results obtained to Aragon's educational community.
The creation of the institute and its corresponding regulations received the backing of the Governing Council of the University of Zaragoza this Friday. The approved document defines the nature and aims of the IPIEC, as well as detailing the functions it will assume, its internal organizational structure and the management model that will guide its operations.
NEW MASTER'S DEGREE IN COMMUNICATION AND CULTURE IN ENGLISH
The University of Zaragoza will also expand its academic offerings with a Master's Degree in Communication and Culture in English, scheduled to launch in the 2027-2028 academic year. The new program will have 20 places and will be taught at the Faculty of Philosophy and Arts, after the Governing Council approved its verification report.
The institution has also authorized the start of procedures to create a Bachelor's Degree in Design Engineering Management together with the German university Hochschule Esslingen. It will be the first joint international bachelor's degree of its kind at the University of Zaragoza and will offer 25 places to students from each of the two participating institutions.
The curriculum will allow students to complete their first year at their home university, move to Zaragoza during the second year and continue their studies in Germany in the third. In the fourth year, each student may choose which of the two universities they wish to attend to complete their studies. This degree is also scheduled to launch in 2027-2028.
