Six rural schools in Aragon to become classrooms for future teachers

Six rural schools in Aragon will become learning classrooms for future teachers this academic year. The region will be one of five destinations in the seventh edition of "Generación docentes", a Princesa de Girona Foundation program enabling Early Childhood and Primary Education students to complete four-month placements in rural schools away from their home regions.

Specifically, the placements will take place at CRA Montesnegros, CEIP Ramón y Cajal in Alpartir, CRA Monegros Norte, CRA Somontano, CEIP San Ginés and CRA El Enebro. Aragon is providing six of the 26 schools selected across Spain to host the 40 university students taking part this academic year in an initiative focused on learning about different educational realities.

The future teachers will arrive in Aragon from other autonomous communities, as one of the program's conditions is that participants complete their placement in a territory different from their place of origin and residence. The placements will last four months and can take place between November 2, 2026, and June 30, 2027, with the students becoming part of the schools' day-to-day operations.

SIX ARAGONESE SCHOOLS TO DISCOVER RURAL EDUCATION

The experience will allow the university students to gain first-hand insight into the specific features of rural education in Aragon, from its organization to the relationship between schools and their surrounding areas. During their placements, they will be supported by their university tutor, mentor teachers at their host school and education specialists linked to "Generación docentes".

Each participant will also receive financial assistance of 3,000 euros to cover part of the costs associated with travel, accommodation and in-person training. The program complements the placements with content on communication, leadership, visual thinking, emotional well-being and technology applied to education, as well as educational expeditions and other experiences.

In total, the new cohort consists of 40 students from 16 universities in nine autonomous communities. The 26 host schools are distributed among Aragon, with six schools; Andalusia, which joins the program this year and contributes another six; Castilla y León, with four; Extremadura, with three; and Galicia, with seven. None of the participants will complete their placement in their home community.

ARAGON ALSO CONTRIBUTES TO THE TRAINING OF FUTURE TEACHERS

The program began this weekend with a gathering held from October 2 to 5 in Santa Maria de Palautordera, Barcelona. Aragon was also represented in the sessions. Juan Antonio Rodríguez, a teacher at CEIP Ramón y Cajal in Alpartir, took part in "Ruralízate", a forum designed to show university students what daily life is like for teachers and pupils in rural schools.

Aragonese education once again played a prominent role in the so-called "Well-being staff room". Guillermo Sánchez Guiu, head of IES Ramón y Cajal in Zaragoza, which received the Princesa de Girona School of the Year Award in 2022, and Rosa María Llorente, head of CEIP Ramiro Soláns in Zaragoza, which received the same distinction in 2025, took part in the activity.

"Generación docentes" was created in 2020 to strengthen the training of university students in Early Childhood and Primary Education through educational innovation, mentoring and experiences in rural schools. More than 200 young people have taken part since then, and 40 education faculties have joined its network. The seventh edition is supported by Deloitte and once again includes Aragon among its destination regions.
