Red Cross to reinforce security at most 2026 Fiestas del Pilar events

Red Cross is once again joining the extensive security and public assistance operation coordinated by Zaragoza City Council during the Fiestas del Pilar. Through nearly 250 preventive medical services and the participation of more than 200 volunteers, the organization will work alongside security forces, emergency services and other involved entities to help ensure the festivities run smoothly and provide a rapid, effective response to any incident.

The operation was presented this morning by Susana Royo, provincial coordinator of the Red Cross in Zaragoza, and Alfredo Carque, head of the preventive medical operation for the 2026 Fiestas del Pilar. Both highlighted the importance of cooperation between Zaragoza City Council, security forces, emergency services and participating organizations to ensure a coordinated response throughout the festivities.

For ten days, Red Cross teams will be present at the city's main festival venues, including the Valdespartera Fairgrounds, concerts organized by Zaragoza City Council, the Flower Offering, the Fruit Offering, the Rosary of Glass, fireworks displays and numerous popular activities. This year, the organization will also resume providing medical coverage for the Pilar Bullfighting Fair and will continue serving events promoted by private organizations.

AT THE MOST IMPORTANT FESTIVAL EVENTS

For the third consecutive year, the Red Cross will deploy its Psychosocial Emergency Immediate Response Team (ERIE Psicosocial) at the most heavily attended events, strengthening comprehensive support for people taking part in the Fiestas del Pilar. This resource will be present at events with the largest crowds to provide emotional support and specialized assistance in situations involving crises, anxiety, assaults, incidents involving minors or support for relatives of people receiving care.

The medical operation will have three Advanced Life Support (ALS) ambulances, 13 Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances, three mobile first-aid posts (PAPS), six transport vehicles, one all-terrain vehicle, one Advanced First Aid Post (PSA) and various medical assistance supplies.

In addition, two Basic Life Support ambulances will remain operational 24 hours a day throughout the festivities to handle possible transfers and any medical incident that may occur either at venues covered by the operation or elsewhere in the city.

FLOWER OFFERING

One of the most significant moments will be the Flower Offering on October 12. From early in the morning, the Red Cross will set up its Advanced First Aid Post in Plaza del Pilar, along with a substantial team and medical resources to assist participants and the general public.

In addition, Red Cross Youth will once again provide its traditional accompaniment service for minors taking part in the Offering. With more than three decades of history, the initiative assists around 1,000 children every year thanks to the involvement of more than 50 volunteers.
