The election completes the process that began on September 17, when the CARTV Board of Directors agreed, by a two-thirds majority, to propose Raquel Fuertes for another term at the helm of the corporation and forwarded her candidacy to the Aragon Parliament for processing.

Fuertes was first appointed director general of CARTV in November 2023. Since then, she has led a period marked by the growth of Aragon’s public media and the acceleration of the corporation’s technological and digital transformation.

NEW CHALLENGES TO CONSOLIDATE CARTV’S TRANSFORMATION

During her appearance before the Institutional Committee of the Aragon Parliament ahead of the parliamentary vote, Raquel Fuertes identified the consolidation of the Aragón Play digital platform as one of the main priorities for the new term, along with the launch of the Smart TV application in the coming weeks. This step will make it easier to access content from the main screen in the home and adapt Aragón TV and Aragón Radio to new ways of consuming audiovisual content.

Another priority will be the signing of a new programme contract with the Government of Aragon to provide stability and enable the corporation’s outstanding strategic projects to move forward. These include relocating CARTV’s facilities to the Expo Zaragoza site, one of the projects expected to shape the corporation’s future development and support its technological, organisational and audiovisual modernisation.

Continuing the digital transformation process, improving infrastructure and planning for the medium and long term will complement the commitment to maintaining public media that are close to citizens, rigorous, pluralistic and capable of reflecting Aragón’s territorial and social diversity.

A CAREER CLOSELY LINKED TO CARTV

Raquel Fuertes holds a degree in Audiovisual Communication from the University of Navarra and a master’s degree in Digital Business Transformation from ISDI. She began her professional career at Canal 31, the local television station in Calamocha, and later worked for Antena Aragón, Antena 3 Aragón and TVE, both at Torrespaña and at its Aragon regional centre.

Her connection with CARTV dates back virtually to the birth of the region’s public media. In October 2005, she was part of the team that launched Aragón Radio’s regular broadcasts and later joined the news services of Aragón TV, where she spent nearly a decade performing various journalistic roles and covering, among other areas, the institutional, parliamentary and electoral activity of the region.

She has also developed her career in institutional communications and team management. She served as chief of staff in the Government of Aragon and has university teaching experience. She is also a civil servant who entered the public administration through competitive examination and is currently on leave.
