Mental Health Forum in Zaragoza calls for care that goes “beyond the consultation”

Mental health care does not end with a consultation. Social support, assistance for families and coordination between organizations have become key to providing a comprehensive response, a reality highlighted by the Forum of Aragonese Mental Health Organizations this Thursday in Zaragoza on World Mental Health Day.

The Forum held its institutional event at various venues in the Aragonese capital, including Zaragoza’s Casa de la Iglesia, the courtyard of the Alma Mater Museum and the facilities of the Mental Health Project run by Cáritas Diocesana de Zaragoza. The event focused on collaboration between organizations and the need to support people with mental health problems beyond the strictly healthcare sphere.

COMPREHENSIVE CARE BEYOND THE HEALTHCARE SECTOR

During the gathering, Forum president Alfonso Cerdán Ibáñez addressed the sector’s main challenges and defended the importance of continuing to move toward comprehensive care that includes both those receiving support and their families.

Cáritas Diocesana de Zaragoza served as the host organization for this edition and presented its work in social and social-healthcare support. The Forum currently comprises 15 organizations operating across Aragon’s three provinces and the region’s eight healthcare sectors, with activity in both urban and rural areas.

The event also served to strengthen collaboration among third-sector organizations working in mental health in Aragon and their coordination with public administrations. In addition, the Forum thanked the Archdiocese of Zaragoza for hosting and supporting a gathering that sought to increase visibility for the role of these organizations and the ongoing support provided to people with mental health problems and their families.
