The first to receive the vaccine at the San José Norte health center was María Pilar, 85, who says she goes every year to get vaccinated against both the flu and COVID. “I’ve never had any problems or experienced any reaction, so I’ll keep coming,” she says. For her, getting vaccinated is “very necessary, because otherwise they wouldn’t offer it,” adding that if nothing has happened to her in 85 years, “it’s not going to happen now.”
María Pilar was just one of hundreds of people who went to get vaccinated on Monday. Some, like her, decided to receive the flu vaccine at the same time as the COVID vaccine, while others preferred to get only the flu shot. That was the case with Ramón, who justified his decision by saying that “it’s been many years since COVID, and I no longer think it’s necessary.”
From early in the morning, people received their doses one by one. In this case, the vaccine was an adjuvanted one, which strengthens and prolongs the immune system’s response to the antigen. Carmen said this did not make it any more uncomfortable. “The truth is, I didn’t feel anything,” she added.
In addition to people over 80, vaccination for children aged between 6 months and 11 years began on Monday. Both groups have been able to request appointments for several days through SaludInforma to receive the vaccine at their health center. The next step will come on November 3, when the rest of the groups will join the campaign, including people over 60 and those with risk factors.
