Huesca teachers to strike Wednesday over Education Inspectorate dispute: the reasons

Teachers in Huesca and the province have been called to strike this Wednesday, October 14, to demand changes to the way the Education Inspectorate operates. After more than two years of conflict without satisfactory solutions, according to unions, teachers will once again take to the streets of the provincial capital in a day of mobilization including a morning rally and an afternoon march.
Huesca teachers to strike Wednesday over Education Inspectorate dispute: the reasons

The strike has been jointly organized by CSIF, CGT, HUSTE-STEA, CCOO, UGT and ANPE, which are denouncing a "very deep sense of unease" in Huesca's schools. The unions are calling for an Education Inspectorate with consistent criteria and greater safeguards for teachers, as well as an end to the "bureaucratic practices and ongoing demands based on punitive and disciplinary approaches" that, they argue, lie behind the dispute.

WHEN AND WHERE THE PROTESTS WILL TAKE PLACE

The education strike on Wednesday, October 14, will include two protests in the provincial capital. The first will take place at noon in Plaza de Cervantes, where teachers have been called to a rally to highlight their demands.

In the afternoon, the protests will continue with a march at 6 p.m., starting from Plaza de Santo Domingo in Huesca. Both events seek to demand answers from the education authorities over a dispute that, according to the unions, has gone on for more than two years without satisfactory solutions.

WHAT HUESCA TEACHERS ARE DEMANDING

Among the six unions' main demands are the elimination of the so-called "minimum essential requirements" and the harmonization of the Education Inspectorate's operating criteria across Aragon's three provinces. They are also calling for an external review, with safeguards, of the sanctions imposed on teachers and for the replacement of the current head of the Huesca Inspectorate.

The unions believe the situation goes beyond individual cases and directly affects teachers' working conditions. In this regard, they warn that it is a dispute that "affects the professional safeguards, legal certainty and working conditions of all teachers.

With this new day of strike action, the organizations behind the call are seeking "effective responses from the education authorities" and to break the deadlock in a dispute that has lasted more than two years. The unions insist on the need for "effective change in the operation of the Huesca Education Inspectorate" and defend an inspection model that is "useful, fair and at the service of the education community".
