Education Department and Unions to Meet at End of Month to Discuss Extracurricular Activity Regulations

The Education Department and unions will meet next week to discuss, in a technical committee, the regulation of extracurricular activities and educational trips outside school premises. The Directorate-General for Personnel conveyed this on Tuesday morning to the unions attending the technical committee that approved the teaching exams, offering 900 positions across 21 specialties.

With this new meeting, the aim is to respond to the joint request submitted on September 7 by the CSIF, CGT, CCOO, Stea and UGT unions. CGT, for its part, stresses that the meeting should have been convened within one month of the request.

The Education Department insists that the transitional order was created as an organizational tool to regulate how these activities should be planned, supervised and carried out in public schools, but emphasizes that it does not modify teachers’ working conditions. In other words, issues such as “working hours, schedules, pay or allowances” fall outside the scope of this regulation.

In this regard, the Department also points out that the order itself refers these matters to their specific regulations and the corresponding collective bargaining forums. It therefore warns that these issues cannot be negotiated in a technical committee.
