As part of this monitoring, Public Health has set an epidemic threshold of 59.6 flu cases per 100,000 inhabitants. This means that if Aragon exceeds that number of cases in a week, the region would be considered to be experiencing a flu epidemic. During the previous flu season, this situation was reached at the end of November, with 63.4 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. In 2024, by contrast, the epidemic level was reached after the Christmas holidays.
Far from these situations, week 41 (from October 8 to 15) was the first in which the Aragon Epidemiological Bulletin recorded cases reported in the region. So far, incidence has stood at 11.34 cases per 100,000 inhabitants. Compared with the first week of monitoring during the previous flu season, when there were 15 cases, the number of cases is currently somewhat lower.
FLU VACCINATION CAMPAIGN
The campaign against flu, COVID-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) began on September 28 in nursing homes and among social and healthcare workers, pregnant women, and people with high dependency needs or very high risk. School vaccinations began later, on October 5, targeting children aged 3, 4 and 5. The program is running through Monday in 159 schools across the region.
People over 80 and children aged between 6 months and 11 years can now request an appointment through SaludInforma to receive the vaccine at their health center. Immunization for these groups will begin next Monday, October 19, at health centers across the region.
The next step will come on November 3, when the rest of the groups will be added to the campaign, including people over 60 and those with risk factors.
