The regional minister for Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion, Octavio López, announced the completion of work on the A-222 as it passes through Muniesa, while also stating that “three other itineraries will be completed before the end of the year”. “Wherever a good road reaches, it is easier for investment to arrive, economic activity to be generated and people to remain living in their towns,” he stressed.
SEVEN ROADS AND SIX DISTRICTS
Work on Itinerary 3 began on August 19, 2024, and was completed in just 24 months, six months ahead of the originally scheduled deadline, with an investment of 58 million euros. It covers seven regional roads: ARA-1, A-220, A-222, A-1101, A-1305, A-1307 and A-1404.
The route links a large part of Zaragoza province. It connects the capital and its surrounding area with towns and districts such as Campo de Cariñena, Campo de Belchite and Valdejalón. It also reaches the Teruel districts of Bajo Martín and Cuencas Mineras, including towns such as Muniesa.
The work included resurfacing more than 100 kilometres of roads and the comprehensive improvement of more than 60 kilometres, with measures aimed at improving safety, comfort and driving conditions. In addition, more than 20 kilometres of safety barriers were installed, four new bridges were built and the safety conditions of a further 12 were improved.
HIGH LEVEL OF PEC IMPLEMENTATION
The minister also highlighted the overall scope of the Extraordinary Plan: “With the renewal of the seven roads in Itinerary 3 and the 44 included in the other 10 itineraries under the Extraordinary Plan, we will move Aragon out of last place in the ranking of Spain’s worst regional roads”.
Finally, Octavio López recalled that the PEC is progressing at the desired pace, noting that “since President Azcón launched the Extraordinary Plan on July 26, 2024, on the A-122 as it passes through La Almunia de Doña Godina, more than 80% of the work has been completed and the Plan as a whole will be fully realised in the first half of 2027”.
