These are the five roads in Zaragoza and Teruel that Aragon has just renovated

Aragon’s roads continue to be upgraded to improve road safety and make journeys easier for drivers. The latest works have refurbished 171 kilometres of roads in the provinces of Zaragoza and Teruel, finishing six months ahead of schedule. The improvements affect five regional roads and include resurfacing, route changes and new safety measures.

Accordingly, the works were carried out on the A-221 and A-1411 roads in Zaragoza, and the A-231, A-1410 and A-1409 in Teruel. The main improvements include the complete renovation of the A-1410 between the N-232 and Castelserás, upgrades to the route and road surface on the A-231 and A-1409, and works on the A-1411 between Mequinenza and its connection with the A-221. The bridge over the Matarraña River in Maella was also expanded and improved.

The works, included in the Lower Aragon Route 1 of the Extraordinary Road Plan, involved an investment of more than 51.7 million euros and were carried out by the Bajo Aragón concessionaire, made up of Pavasal and ACYC Obras y Servicios. The works included the installation of 620 metres of new safety barriers, improvements to drainage systems and new barriers. In addition, more than 3,600 traffic signs were replaced and 405 kilometres of road markings were painted.

NINE ROUTES STILL PENDING UNTIL 2027

With these works, the Lower Aragon Route 1 becomes the second of the eleven routes in the Extraordinary Road Plan to complete its works. The first was the Zaragoza Central Route 3, which was completed last September. The remaining nine will be completed progressively by mid-2027.

The Extraordinary Road Plan includes the renovation of 1,760 kilometres across 51 regional roads, with an investment of 630 million euros allocated to the works. The project is being developed through a concession system that also includes maintaining these roads for the next 25 years. In total, the planned investment over that period amounts to 2.6 billion euros.
