Pilar holiday weekend sends tourism soaring in Zaragoza as bookings rise 18-fold

Zaragoza is emerging as the top destination for the upcoming Pilar holiday weekend. Accommodation bookings to visit the Aragonese capital between October 10 and 12 are 18 times higher than the city’s usual volume during a non-holiday autumn weekend. The event will provide a major boost to the local economy, which is preparing for a large wave of tourists.
Pilar holiday weekend sends tourism soaring in Zaragoza as bookings rise 18-fold

According to data published by the eBooking.com portal, the increase places Zaragoza well ahead of the other destinations analyzed. Bookings in Córdoba are six times higher than usual, while those in Cazorla have increased fivefold and those in Toledo and Cuenca fourfold. Granada, Bilbao and Burgos have recorded increases of 3.5 times. The Aragonese capital is therefore the city where the holiday weekend effect is most pronounced among the destinations tracked by the platform.

THE PILAR FESTIVITIES BOOST DEMAND

The portal links this sharp increase to the weekend’s cultural and leisure program and, particularly in Zaragoza’s case, to the Pilar Festivities. Its director, Toni Raurich, notes that the festivities are “one of the city’s main tourist attractions” during a period when major events are also being held in other parts of Spain.

Zaragoza also occupies a prominent position in terms of total search volume. The city ranks as the fifth most searched national and international destination for the Pilar holiday weekend, behind only Madrid, Paris, London and Granada. It is followed by Seville, Bilbao, Córdoba, Toledo and Andorra la Vella.

ZARAGOZA AMONG THE MOST SEARCHED DESTINATIONS

Zaragoza’s performance also stands out because the increase is not simply building on already high tourism demand. According to eBooking.com, with the exception of Zaragoza and Córdoba, many of the cities included among the most searched destinations maintain booking levels for those dates similar to those of any other non-holiday autumn weekend.
