New commercial calendar in Aragon: BOA lists the 10 Sundays and public holidays for opening in 2027

Some public holidays are used not only to rest, travel or enjoy a getaway, but also by many people in Aragon to catch up on shopping left unfinished during the week. Those who regularly visit shops and shopping centers on these days can already start looking at the 2027 calendar. Aragon has set the ten Sundays and public holidays when shops will be allowed to open next year. This is stated in the Boletín Oficial de Aragón (BOA) published this Thursday, October 1, through Order ECE/1405/2026.

The calendar mainly affects commercial establishments with more than 300 square meters of usable floor space for displaying and selling goods to the public, as well as shopping centers. The order itself recalls that smaller establishments are exempt from these opening-hour restrictions. Aragonese regulations establish a maximum of ten Sundays and public holidays for commercial opening each year, without prejudice to establishments subject to special opening-hour rules.

However, the calendar published by the Government of Aragon may be modified at the municipal level. Shops with more than 300 square meters and shopping centers may propose alternative dates if they believe these better suit the needs and commercial appeal of each locality. To do so, they must submit a declaration of responsibility within ten working days of the order's publication, while maintaining the limit of ten opening days per year for each establishment and municipality.

THE 10 SUNDAYS AND PUBLIC HOLIDAYS FOR COMMERCIAL OPENING IN ARAGON IN 2027

The calendar approved by the Government of Aragon concentrates many of the opening days in two particularly important periods for retailers: the beginning of the year and, above all, the Christmas shopping season. The ten authorized dates are January 3 and 10; June 27; November 1 and 28; and December 5, 6, 12, 19 and 26.

The first two opening days will be Sunday, January 3 and 10, coinciding with the first weeks of the year and the period following Christmas, as well as the sales season. The next authorized opening day will not come until Sunday, June 27.

The calendar will become active again in the final stretch of the year. Monday, November 1, All Saints' Day, is among the authorized dates, as is Sunday, November 28, just before the Christmas shopping season. December will be the month with the most opening days: Sundays December 5, 12, 19 and 26, together with Monday, December 6, Constitution Day, complete the ten days set by the regional government.

Establishments that choose to modify these dates must also make their 2027 public holiday opening calendar public and clearly visible. Any changes authorized to the general calendar will also be published on the Government of Aragon's website.
