Aragon Promotes Financial Education Among Teenagers with Awareness Program

The Aragon Government’s Department of Education, Science and Universities is promoting financial education among secondary and upper-secondary students through the Financial Education for Teenagers program, an initiative developed in collaboration with the Museo de la Economía Foundation and Caja Rural de Aragón Foundation. The program provides schools with a digital platform featuring content adapted to young people’s reality.

The program aims to provide students with knowledge and tools to improve their ability to understand economic realities and make informed, responsible financial decisions. It addresses issues related to saving, consumption, investment, credit, inflation, payment methods, cybersecurity and the technological transformation of the economy.

The initiative is delivered through seven digital modules, with content and activities designed specifically for teenagers. The program combines audiovisual resources, games, challenges, simulations and practical situations in which students must make decisions, manage a budget, deal with unexpected events, identify potential risks or assess the effects of economic phenomena such as inflation.

A PROGRAM COMBINING HISTORY, TECHNOLOGY AND LEARNING

One of the program’s distinguishing features is its use of history as an educational resource. Through objects and documents linked to the Museo de la Economía, such as coins, banknotes, old savings passbooks and historical documents, students can explore the evolution of money and understand how some current economic issues have accompanied societies over time. The content includes references to phenomena such as hyperinflation, as well as historical instruments and regulations related to economic activity.

The Department of Education, Science and Universities will provide institutional support for the program, promote it among non-university schools, and coordinate and liaise with schools and other organizations that may participate in its development. It will also collaborate in reviewing, validating and supervising the educational content and materials, and will monitor the institutional implementation and results of the initiative.

The Museo de la Economía Foundation will be responsible for designing, developing and coordinating the educational content, as well as preparing the teaching materials delivered through the online platform. The program will also include audiovisual materials, activities and practical exercises adapted to teenage students, along with online tutoring for participating teachers.

The Caja Rural de Aragón Foundation will contribute to the project by financing it. Its director, Laura Prada Navarro, said that "education is the best investment in the future. Promoting financial education among young people means giving them the tools to understand the world around them, develop critical thinking and make responsible decisions that will stay with them throughout their lives".
