The Socialist Party was due to choose its candidates for the three provincial capitals and Calatayud. Candidate submissions were scheduled between October 23 and 26, voting, if more than one contender stood, was to take place on November 14 and a second round, if necessary, on November 21.
The entire process has been suspended to avoid coinciding with the preparation of the lists for Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel for the November 29 general elections. These will certainly undergo changes, as Pilar Alegría, now the opposition leader in the Aragonese regional parliament, stood for election in Zaragoza province and served as education minister before becoming the PSOE's candidate for the presidency of Aragón.
The primary process was still in its early stages. The official candidates were not yet known, although in the Aragonese capital both Lola Ranera, the Socialists' spokeswoman on Zaragoza City Council, and Fernando Beltrán, the government delegate in Aragón, had shown interest. In addition, Fernando Sarasa has put himself forward as a candidate for Huesca City Council, where he is currently a councillor, while incumbent spokeswoman Silvia Salazar has stepped aside.
