Pilar Alegría enters election race with “enthusiasm and optimism”: “The future of this country is at stake”

PSOE Aragón secretary general Pilar Alegría has expressed her “enthusiasm and optimism” about overturning the polls, as happened in 2023. She said the Socialists will explain the importance of these elections, in which voters must choose between respecting those who are different and “politics based on insults and the dehumanization of political opponents.” “Our country’s very future is at stake,” she said.
Pilar Alegría enters election race with “enthusiasm and optimism”: “The future of this country is at stake”

This is how Pilar Alegría spoke after the PSOE’s regional executive committee meeting to launch the election campaign and prepare the lists for Zaragoza, Huesca and Teruel, which will be approved on October 17. She ruled out standing in the elections, saying that “her commitment is to Aragón,” where she will continue “defending the people of Aragón” from the opposition.

PP DOUBTS OVER POSTAL VOTING

Meanwhile, the Socialist leader criticized Azcón for joining PP leaders who are questioning the electoral system and postal voting, despite the fact that this same system has allowed the Popular Party to govern autonomous communities and town halls.

“Is he perhaps president of Aragón because of electoral fraud?” Alegría asked, recalling that the PP is contesting the elections under the same rules whose validity some of its leaders are now questioning.

The secretary general of PSOE Aragón also said that this discourse is not limited to Azcón and recalled similar statements by other PP officials, including Zaragoza’s mayor and the president of the Community of Madrid. “We have first-division Trumpism within the Popular Party,” she said.

She also noted that since 2023, the PP and Vox have called for elections “morning, noon and night,” but when they are called, the first thing people see is “long faces”: “I have seen funerals that were more entertaining and showed more enthusiasm than the face and words of the leaders of the Popular Party and Vox.”

Alegría defended the policies implemented by the progressive government during this parliamentary term, such as the Housing Law. In this regard, she criticized the PP’s opposition from regional governments to this legislation, as well as its opposition to the two so-called Maricarmen decrees.
