Housing, PIGA projects and healthcare in Teruel take center stage in Aragon parliament

Although the Spanish Congress has been dissolved following the call for a general election, the Cortes of Aragon continues its work. Three issues will dominate Thursday’s session: housing, PIGA projects and the situation of hospitals in Teruel and Alcañiz.

In addition, lawmakers will debate the Law on the Statute of Rural Women of Aragon, promoted by the Socialist Parliamentary Group to guarantee equal opportunities and treatment in rural areas of the autonomous community. The legislation seeks to eradicate historical discrimination, combat the invisibility of women’s work and curb the demographic problem of depopulation.

HOUSING TO BE DEBATED

After that, Aragon President Jorge Azcón will appear at his own request to review his government’s housing policy and future measures in this area. The issue will be addressed in the regional parliament at a time when it is dominating headlines, with the two major parties, the PP and PSOE, debating the best model: releasing land and promoting construction, or greater rent regulation and caps on large landlords and speculators.

Health Minister Ángel Sanz will also appear, at CHA’s request, to provide information on the measures to be adopted to assist residents of Teruel, given the situation at the hospitals in Teruel and Alcañiz. Housing, Public Works, Logistics and Territorial Cohesion Minister Octavio López will also appear at the PSOE’s request to provide information on the processing of PIGA projects.

In the afternoon, eight non-legislative proposals will be debated. The PP and Vox will present two joint motions on the immediate execution of outstanding works under the Water Pact and the distribution of minors from Ceuta. Vox will also present a separate proposal on strengthening defense, security and the state’s capabilities in the two autonomous cities.

The Popular Party will present three other non-legislative proposals concerning the consequences for Spain of the successive corruption cases, the promotion of institutional cooperation on housing in Aragon, and the immediate return of the Sijena property. There will also be a vote on the territorial planning of biogas plants, presented by Teruel Existe, and on the creation of public housing and protection against evictions, presented by the PSOE.
