Azcón criticizes government plan to approve data center decree before elections

Aragon President Jorge Azcón has expressed his disagreement with the Spanish government’s intention to approve the decree regulating data centers before the general election. He does not understand why a caretaker government would make “such an important decision” affecting investments worth billions of euros in these technology infrastructures, which are seeking to establish themselves in the region.

In response to questions from the media, Jorge Azcón remained cautious, saying that “these are media reports, and there is no official information from the government.” El País reported that the process has been accelerated after the CNMC approved its report on the new decree. The numerous submissions have already been filed, including one from the Government of Aragon.

However, the regional president argued that “the prudent course would be that, if elections have been called and even the Council of State’s report is still pending, it should allow the next government to make the decisions”.
