Four Zaragoza neighborhoods unite to demand a National Police station

Southern Zaragoza is calling for its own National Police station. Four neighborhood associations from Arcosur, Rosales del Canal, Valdespartera and Valdefierro have joined the “Blue Light in the Southern District” campaign to demand a greater police presence in the afternoons and at night, as well as the creation of a sixth district station in an area that already has more than 43,700 residents.

The initiative was launched by the Arcosur 360 Neighborhood Association and seeks to update the security map for a city that has grown significantly toward the south. The campaign focuses on the distance separating these neighborhoods from existing police facilities. Zaragoza has five district police stations—Actur-Rey Fernando, Arrabal, Centro, Delicias and San José—established in 2013, before the Southern District was created in 2018.

According to data provided by the campaign organizers, it takes about 57 minutes to reach the San José station by bus from Arcosur, while Delicias, the closest station for filing a complaint in person, is around 42 minutes away. In addition, there is no national ID card office in the district.

THEY PROPOSE A POSSIBLE LOCATION

The associations are not only calling for more resources; they are also proposing a possible location for the future station: the S-2 public facilities plot in Arcosur, a 57,379-square-meter site next to the roundabout on Avenida de Casablanca, between Arcosur and Rosales del Canal.

According to the neighborhood proposal, the first homes in all four neighborhoods could be reached from this point in one or two minutes. The feasibility of the location remains to be studied, and the final decision would rest with the Ministry of the Interior and Zaragoza City Council.

The campaign currently has the backing of the Arcosur 360, Entrelagos, Parque Libro de la Selva and Corredor Verde Valdefierro associations. Montecanal, the fourth neighborhood in the Southern District, is considering joining the initiative. The organizers also want to gather residents' experiences and encourage businesses to show their support by displaying posters in their windows.

The aim is to take the request to the Directorate-General of the Police, the Government Delegation in Aragon and municipal institutions so that security keeps pace with the growth of this area of Zaragoza.
