The red-clad team has made a strong and emphatic start to the season. First, they overcame Impulso 360 Estepona at home (68-41), then recorded a resounding win away to Inversus Gernika Bizkaia (72-108), before beating Celta Femxa Zorka on the road last weekend (52-83). The three victories have put Casademont at the top of the standings with a 3-0 record and a sizeable +94 point differential, level with the other two teams still unbeaten in the league this season: Mirai Euskotren and Azulmarino Mallorca Palma.
In addition, the clash with the Lugo side comes after a European debut that made the entire Red Tide suffer, thrill and ultimately celebrate. Last Wednesday, Casademont defeated Basket Landes 76-75 in a game that required overtime to settle. The comeback by the red-clad side, completed in a dramatic finale, provided a confidence boost for Carlos Cantero's team, which will travel to Greece to face Athinaikos in the second round of the EuroLeague after playing Lugo.
THE OPPONENT: ENSINO LUGO
Standing in their way on Saturday will be Durán Maquinaria Ensino, who sit 12th with one win and two defeats from their opening three games. The Galician side began the season with losses to Mirai Euskotren (53-72) and Impulso 360 Estepona (82-55), but opened their winning account against Kutxabank Araski (76-63). The Lugo team also arrive in Zaragoza after playing their first EuroCup Women game this Thursday, losing to Lattes Montpellier 89-64.
The game will also have a special element due to the presence of Zaragoza-born player Zoe Hernández in the Galician squad. Casademont will therefore look to capitalize on their status as league leaders and the support of the Príncipe Felipe to claim another victory and maintain their perfect league record.
