Aínsa Opens Its Artificial Turf Football Field After a €622,000 Municipal Investment

Aínsa inaugurated its new artificial turf football field on Sunday after five months of work involving a €622,000 investment by the town council. The project will improve training and competition conditions for teams across the region, putting an end to the problems caused by maintaining natural grass, especially during the winter months and periods of heavy rain.

More good news is expected next week, when the field obtains FIFA certification, becoming the second artificial turf field in our region, alongside SD Huesca’s, to be certified by the organization.

The opening ceremony brought together representatives of Aínsa-Sobrarbe Town Council, led by Mayor Enrique Pueyo, members of Club Deportivo Sobrarbe, Escuela Deportiva Sobrarbe, Peña Somos Depor and Interpeñas, as well as executives from the Aragonese Football Federation, those responsible for the project, regional councillors and the mayors of Boltaña and Labuerda. They all shared an emotional day of celebration, as in addition to celebrating the long-awaited improvement, the event paid tribute to the 45-year history of the municipal El Cinca football field and to those who, at different stages, supported its upkeep.

The mayor of Aínsa-Sobrarbe, Enrique Pueyo, highlighted the financial effort this project has represented for the municipal coffers. “We are talking about an investment that ultimately reached €622,000, a very significant amount for a small town council like ours, which has to meet many other needs and provide numerous services. However, we were clear that this project was necessary and that we had to do everything possible to see it through. It is a commitment to sport, to our young people and to the future of facilities that will serve the entire region.”

Pueyo also stressed that following the effort made by the town council, the involvement of all users is now necessary. “We remember how, shortly after its inauguration 45 years ago, there was a flood and many volunteers had to work hard to rebuild the infrastructure, contributing their time. Now we are once again asking for everyone’s cooperation, because after the most substantial investment we have made in recent years, it is time to maintain it. That is the responsibility of the town council, as well as of all the teams and people who use it.”

The transformation of the playing field, whose project was drawn up by Inagro and carried out by Obras y Pavimentos Especiales, with the participation of local company Santiago Pueyo in the earthworks, will directly benefit more than ten Escuela Deportiva Sobrarbe teams, comprising over 200 young footballers, as well as Deportivo Sobrarbe, which competes in Primera Regional. Until now, the difficulties of keeping the natural grass in optimal condition led to training sessions and matches being cancelled during certain times of the year. The installation of artificial turf will ensure greater continuity for sporting activities.

“Thanks to everyone involved in this project, from the designers and builders to councillors, teams and athletes. And my special recognition goes to Carlota Dorado, the councillor responsible for the area, for clearly seeing the value of the project, managing it and making the dream of so many people a reality,” the mayor concluded.

The celebration of this new chapter began at 4 p.m. with events organized by Peña Somos Depor, including a marching band, Helvéticos Show from Binéfar, and various surprises for players and supporters. Following the official opening, the new playing field hosted the match corresponding to the sixth round of Primera Regional, Group 2, between Deportivo Sobrarbe and Atlético Monzón B.
