Alicia had just finished dancing a jota on the stage at Fuente de la Hispanidad, and the applause was still ringing out when Joan appeared with a large bouquet of flowers. “You know everything we have experienced together over the years and how happy you make me,” he began, speaking to an already emotional Alicia, who was starting to guess what the surprise was about. “I have wanted to ask you this question for a long time, but what better day and place than here in front of the Pilar… Will you marry me?” Joan concluded as he got down on one knee.
The young woman did not need even two seconds to think about it. Her “yes, I will” came almost instantly, amid the applause and emotion of everyone there who witnessed this special moment for the couple.
Later, somewhat calmer but very happy, Alicia told ARAGÓN DIGITAL that the couple have been together for almost six years and that their story began much earlier: “We have known each other since we were very young, from high school, and everything has been very beautiful.” Although she admitted that she expected Joan to propose someday, she had not imagined a scene “on such a grand scale.”
“She expected it to happen at home, somewhere quieter, but this was better,” Joan said. He believes that proposing in the middle of Plaza del Pilar has a special meaning for them both: “It is an important day for her because she was dancing here, so doing it this way was much better.”
